Paul Binns
Board Member
Paul initially worked for the British Geological Survey, at the same time earning a PhD at the University of Edinburgh for his work on the Sea of the Hebrides. While with the Survey he also worked on the North Sea, subsequently joining Shell’s Geophysical Research group in The Hague specialising in quantitative interpretation of seismic data.
Six years in Oman as an Exploration Team Leader was followed by a period in Shell’s Head Office. This included work on the Exploration and Production Area Desk as Regional Geologist for Middle East and Africa, and Area Liaison Engineer for Oman and Nigeria. He then spent four years in Nigeria as Exploration Manager (Eastern Division), followed by a final posting as Exploration Manager, Shell Egypt.
He now teaches externally at Shell Global Solutions and is an Honorary Professor in the Institute of GeoEnergy Engineering at Heriot Watt University. He is an Associate Editor of the EAGE periodical First Break and an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society.
He is also a Fellow of the Geological Society, a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
