Alternative Financing Solutions in the Energy Sector
How changing financing models are supporting investment across the energy sector
As traditional bank financing becomes more selective, a broader range of capital providers and funding structures are playing an increasingly important role across the energy sector. While this discussion will focus primarily on upstream oil & gas, it will also explore how financing trends are influencing investment across infrastructure, renewables and other emerging energy technologies.
Alongside commercial banks, capital is now being deployed by a diverse mix of players, including institutional investors, integrated energy companies, trading houses and specialist financial platforms, each bringing different risk appetites, time horizons and strategic priorities. This is opening up financing options for projects that may not fit conventional bank lending models.
At the same time, heightened geopolitical uncertainty and energy security concerns are reshaping the investment landscape. Higher interest rates, evolving ESG considerations and shifting energy policy are influencing both the cost and availability of capital, as well as how investment decisions are made.
Drawing on perspectives from across upstream finance, commodities and energy markets, this discussion will explore how financing models are evolving, where capital is flowing today, and what these shifts mean for operators, developers and investors navigating a rapidly changing energy landscape.
