Lessons from the Danube and Beyond
About Our Speaker
James Cogan is the Carbon Markets and Compliance Lead at Danube Carbon Storage.
Drawing on extensive experience in renewable energy, sustainability policy, and market engagement, James leads the company’s pioneering efforts to deliver carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects in Europe that focus on durable carbon dioxide removals (CDR) from biogenic CO2.
James ensures that the company’s carbon removal credits meet the highest international standards while navigating emerging frameworks such as the EU Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF). His work bridges the high-integrity removals supply with climate-committed buyers, advancing commercial pathways for large-scale CCS deployment. Danube Carbon Storage is notable for its onshore geological carbon storage (GCS) in Hungary, strategically located near major biogenic CO2 sources, and its commitment to transparent, independently verified CDR, making it a trusted partner in the EU’s net-zero transition
Synopsis
James will present Danube Carbon Storage, the Budapest-based developer delivering commercial, cost-effective onshore carbon sequestration. Backed by the ClonBio Group, Ireland – owner of Europe’s largest grain biorefinery, Pannonia Bio, and EMOV Limited, UK – an international energy company with extensive subsurface expertise, Danube Carbon Storage integrates capture, transport, storage and certification through its dedicated operator, OGD Green Storage. The company’s value proposition is compelling: high-integrity carbon storage and removals at a cost per tonne that is competitive with EU ETS allowance prices, unlocking commercially viable CCS across Europe.
