ESG Breakfast Briefing: “Net zero strategies and climate change litigation”, with Niall McLean and Dr Rachel Gavey

at Scotland House, London

Summary
As the Energy sector continues its transformation to a Net Zero future, Environmental, Social and Governance practices are coming under increased scrutiny.

Join us for the first in the series of Scottish Energy Forum breakfast briefings in 2024 with ESG expert Dr Rachel Gavey and Brodies Partner Niall McLean.

The cumulative number of climate change-related cases worldwide has more than doubled since 2015. With companies under growing pressure to set Net Zero strategies, alongside increasing climate related laws being brought in, this is likely set to increase.

Key areas of challenge include those against companies, governments and public authorities in relation to their emissions strategies and robustness of their Net Zero plans.

In this breakfast session we will look at the trends seen in recent climate change litigation cases, what these mean for companies setting their net zero strategies, and how they can set strategies that are relevant and honest

This session will be relevant to anyone working in or discussing net zero plans; operators, service companies, communications and PR companies, consultants, developers, public authorities, or any person with an interest in climate change litigation.

There will be a 20 minute open presentation provided by ESG and emissions advisory company sustain:able (www.esgable.com) and Brodies (https://brodies.com/), a top 50 UK law firm with 710 specialists working across Scotland, the UK and internationally. This will be followed by a Q&A session and a networking session with delicious breakfast included.

In this session we will cover:

  • best practice for setting ESG strategy and goals;
  • data focussed emissions goals;
  • robust Net Zero planning and implementation
  • different types of climate litigation;
  • recent case law; and
  • key trends.
